The Frozen Orchestrastarted to work as an extended group of the quartet in 2010. Initially it was intended as the "orchestral arm" of the group, but quickly became both a compositional device and a permanent ensemble. It has included Julia Reidy (guitar), Johnny Chang (violin & viola), Cat Lamb (viola), Lucio Capece (bass clarinet), Chris Heenan (bass & contrabass clarinet), Biliana Voutchkova (violin), Okkyung Lee (cello), Nils Ostendorf (trumpet), Robin Hayward (tuba), Mathias Müller (trombone), and Valerio Tricoli (revox).
Amongst many other places they appeared at the Sonic Acts Festival (Amsterdam), Platform Project (Moscow), Roter Salon / Volksbühne (Berlin), and GAS Festival, Gothenburg. Their Amsterdam concert was released as an LP on SOFA (Norway) in 2015 and a Berlin performance was released as a double cassette on Arbitrary Project (Denmark) in 2017. Their largest effort to date is a composition for the 24-piece Splitter Orchester, released as a CD on mikroton (Moscow) in 2018. Most recently they have realized a quintet and an octet composition to celebrate their 10th anniversary (to be released in 2021).
